Who is collecting your information

What we collect

Your name, phone number and email address; your identity document and South African ID number; the address and map location of your property; photographs of the job and of completed work; the messages you send through the app; your ratings and reviews; and, for tradespeople, your trade qualifications, professional registrations, public liability insurance and company registration. If you allow notifications, we also store a push notification token for your device so we can alert you to messages and leads.

Why we collect it

To run a marketplace where property owners can find verified tradespeople. Specifically: to verify that people are who they say they are, to match a job to tradespeople who cover that area and hold the right accreditation, to let the two parties talk to each other and agree a price, to take subscription payments from tradespeople, and to keep the records the law requires us to keep.

Is it voluntary?

Giving us your information is voluntary — but we cannot provide the service without it. If you do not give us your identity document, we cannot verify you, and an unverified account cannot post a job or receive leads. That is the safety promise the platform is built on.

Who we give it to

The other party to a job (a client sees the tradesperson's business details; a tradesperson sees the job and, once you accept their quote, your address and phone number). Our hosting, email and payment providers (Supabase, Render, Resend, Paystack, RevenueCat and Expo), who act on our instructions under written agreements. Regulators, professional bodies or law enforcement where the law requires it, or to investigate fraud or a safety incident.

We do not sell your information and we do not give it to advertisers.

Does it leave South Africa?

Yes. Our database and uploaded files are hosted in Frankfurt, Germany. Section 72 of POPIA allows this because Germany is subject to the EU General Data Protection Regulation, which provides substantially similar protection, and because the transfer is necessary to perform our contract with you.

Your rights

You may ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to processing, withdraw consent, and refuse direct marketing. Email info@bookatradie.co.za and we will respond within 30 days.
